Scholarships

Written by MOHIT MMANGAL

The Scholarships feature under Universities enables students to discover, explore, and save scholarships offered by partner universities and leading global institutions directly within the platform. It centralizes key scholarship information to support informed financial planning and strategic university shortlisting.

NOTE: At this stage, Cialfo supports scholarship discovery, exploration, and saving only. Scholarship applications are not submitted through the Cialfo platform. Students are redirected to official university websites for application-related actions.

Where to Find Scholarships

  1. From the left-hand navigation menu, click Universities.

  2. At the top of the Universities page, select the Scholarships tab.

  3. A list of available scholarships from partner universities and leading global institutions will be displayed as cards.

Each scholarship card provides a quick snapshot, including the university name, scholarship value, deadline, and type.

Advantages of the Scholarships Feature

  • Centralized discovery: View scholarships from multiple universities in one place.

  • Time-saving: No need to visit individual university websites initially.

  • Quick comparison: Easily compare scholarship values, deadlines, and types.

  • Better planning: Helps students align university shortlists with funding opportunities.

  • Future reference: Save scholarships to revisit during application planning.

Searching and Filtering Scholarships

Students can refine the list of scholarships using the available tools at the top of the page:

  • Search bar: Search by scholarship name or university name.

  • Country filter: Filter scholarships based on the country of the university.

  • Scholarship Value filter: Narrow results by award value.

NOTE: Scholarship values are displayed and filtered using the local currency of the university's country. For example, selecting a value range of 1,000–2,000 will include scholarships valued between 1,000 USD and 2,000 USD, as well as scholarships valued between 1,000 JPY and 2,000 JPY, depending on the institution's location.

These filters help students quickly identify scholarships that best match their preferences and eligibility.

Understanding Scholarship Cards

Each scholarship card displays key information at a glance:

  • Scholarship name

  • University offering the scholarship

  • Scholarship value (with currency)

  • Application deadline

  • Scholarship type (e.g., merit-based, need-based)

  • Application requirement indicator (e.g., separate application required)

Adding Scholarships to Bookmarks

  • Click Add to Bookmarks on any scholarship card.

  • Bookmarked scholarships are saved in the Bookmarks section for easy access later.

  • You can click on "Remove from Bookmarks" to un-save the same.

  • This allows students to track scholarships they are interested in without losing them in search results.

Saved scholarships can be reviewed anytime while shortlisting universities or preparing applications.

Clicking on a scholarship card opens the Scholarship Details page. This page provides comprehensive information, including:

What is new? – Scholarship Search Bug Fixes and Improvements

Filter Functionality Improvements

Previously, users experienced multiple issues while applying filters, but these have now been resolved. The Scholarship Value filter has been fixed so that the Max value no longer resets to the Min value, allowing users to set a proper range with Min and Max values working independently and retaining their inputs correctly. Additionally, inaccuracies in the Country filter on iOS devices where certain country combinations returned 0 results despite available scholarships have been addressed, ensuring that filters now return accurate results across all devices. The Reset Filters functionality has also been improved; earlier, it only cleared the input fields without updating the results list, but it now refreshes results immediately to reflect the cleared filters.

Search Accuracy and Result Consistency

Users experienced inconsistencies between the number of scholarships shown and the actual results displayed, particularly when searching for locations such as Hong Kong, where not all results were loading. This issue has now been resolved, ensuring that all matching scholarships load completely and the displayed count accurately reflects the results list, providing a more reliable search experience.

UI Stability and Performance Fixes

Users previously encountered UI issues when applying certain filters, such as Australia, where the layout would break upon scrolling and tabs would disappear or become inaccessible. These issues have now been fixed, ensuring that the interface remains stable, tabs stay visible and the browsing experience is seamless while scrolling through filtered results.

User Experience Improvements

A search scope clarification message has been added below the search bar to inform users that results include scholarships from partner universities and global institutions. Long country lists are now collapsed by default with a "View more / View less" toggle, reducing excessive scrolling. Fields that previously displayed null values now show "Not specified" when no data is available. Scholarship cards have been improved to display multiple scholarship types instead of just one, and clearer labeling has been introduced with "Scholarship Deadline" along with helpful tooltips for tags. Additionally, a dismissible banner now informs users that saved scholarships can be accessed in the Bookmarks section.

Further improvements enhance consistency and usability, including a correctly updating "Add to Favourite" button, improved sorting by relevance and deadline, and centralizing scholarships into a dedicated tab. Minor UI issues, edge-case data problems, and filter-related bugs have also been resolved for a smoother experience.

Scholarship Module Fixes and Improvements

Several issues in the Scholarship module were identified and resolved in December 2025.

Scholarship Value Filter: Default Min/Max Values Updated

Previously, the Scholarship Value filter displayed 0 as the default value in both the Min and Max fields, which misled students into thinking a filter was already applied even when no filtering was intended. The default values have now been updated to display blank placeholder text, making it clear that no filter is active until values are entered.

Eligibility Section: Icon and Bullet Alignment Fixed

Icons and bullet points in the Eligibility section of scholarship detail pages were displaying inconsistently across different scholarships, some appeared correctly aligned while others were misaligned. This visual inconsistency has been resolved. The Eligibility section now displays icons and bullet text in a consistent, aligned format across all scholarships.

Additional Scholarship Usability Improvements

Further improvements to the Scholarship module were deployed:

  • Improved filter behaviour and consistent application of scholarship filters across the platform

  • Navigation fixes to ensure smooth browsing between scholarship listings and detail pages

  • UI consistency improvements across scholarship cards and detail views

  • Predictable filter reset and result-update behaviour

These changes enhance the overall reliability and usability of the Scholarships feature for students and counselors.

Mobile App: DA Scholarship Banner and Filter Removed from University Profile Page

On mobile devices, the Direct Apply scholarship banner and the scholarship filter were appearing on the university profile page. This caused a conflicting experience because the same scholarship information is already presented in the dedicated Scholarships tab, making the university profile page feel cluttered and inconsistent.

Both the DA scholarship banner and the scholarship filter have been removed from the university profile page on mobile. Scholarship information remains fully accessible via the dedicated Scholarships tab under Universities. This change improves clarity and avoids duplication across mobile views.
